#16085, Holland & Holland, 98 New Bond Street, London; Winners Of All The "Field" Rifle Trials, London: A Superb Jones Action Underlever Sideclip Back-Action Rebounding Hammer 577 3" Black Powder Express Double Rifle Finished in 1894, 26" steel barrels, Full length rib with 1 standing and 2 folding rear sights, Ramp front sight with a fold-up night sight, Sideclip action body, Rebounding hammers, Percussion style fences, Articulated front trigger, London proved, Long top strap that goes well over the comb, Action inscribed "Charge 6 Drams, Case 3 Inches" (Most likely 164 grains of powder with a 591 or 598 grain bullet at 1,663 fps with 3,625 foot pounds of energy), Swing Lever release forend, Steel engraved grip cap, The trigger guard tang extends to the grip cap, Shadowline cheekpiece, Sling eyes, 14 3/8" LOP over a Silvers recoil pad with plugs for easy removal or replacement, 11 lbs. 8 oz. which is ideal for 577's from this period, Excellent figured wood with excellent black/brown color & contrast, 95% coverage of classic H&H scroll engraving including the hammers, all of the top strap, lever, trigger guard, forend and grip cap, This vintage gun retains 35% of original case colors, The breech face retains 90% case colors, Zero primer burn at the striker holes, The strong point to this gun is the bores that are absolute in excellent plus condition with square rifling the entire way and remain a 9 out of 10, A professional reblack on the barrels and they appear with perfect striking on the outside surface, The wood remains in 96% condition, The checkering is at 99%, This is flat one good looking and extremely solid rifle in every respect from metal to wood with superb bores. I have had over 1/2 dozen of H&H 577 black powder express doubles and this is the best one I have had my hands on. This is nice stuff from a classic period. Here is first rate quality, style, grace, workmanship, handling and H&H romance from a great period at the pinnacle of sporting guns in the last years of the 19th century.
