The internal inletting is extremely well done in every detail. There is a small glass bedded area just back of the ebony forend tip for proper barrel pressure. It will produce 1" accuracy using factory Barnes 140 grain TSX bullets. This is #68 of 129 customs where Brownell did all the work on a total sporting firearm. This piece is totally like the day it left his Wyarno, Wyoming shop. Brownell stated, "You design guns with your eyes, not with a ruler” and “Quality is to a product what character is to a man." Mr. Brownell passed well before his time and many more great pieces from his capable hands would have been finished.

Mr. Lenard M. Brownell was born in Sheridan, Wyoming in 1922 and served during WWII. He started his custom gun business in 1947. In 1965 Bill Ruger hired Brownell where he began work for Sturm, Ruger, and Co. He was instrumental in the development of the New Hampshire plant for the manufacture of Ruger rifles and designed gun stocks for the Ruger #1 single-shot rifle, the Ruger Model M77 bolt rifle and Ruger shotguns. Kimber of Oregon also used Brownell as a designer. The Talley vertically split rings began as a Brownell product. My friend Mr. Roger M. Green, Gunmaker, was also influenced by Brownell. Roger built a gun for President H. W. Bush and was invited to the Whitehouse to present the gun in person to President H. W. Bush. Lenard Brownell passed away at the early age of 59 in 1982.
